Wood Duck 12x18

I’ve always struggled to capture good images of waterfowl. Sure, I can go to the backyard in the spring and get all the Canada geese I could ask for, plus some. But when it comes to the more defining waterfowl, like wood ducks and mallards and pintails (my personal favorite), I usually screw up and miss it or they fly off.

In this case, I was able to capture him eyeing me apprehensively in captivity. I’m not big on captivity being a “natural” habitat, so I use my captive animals as artwork instead.

This image has won numerous awards both at the state level (Texas) and the national level (Animal Image Makers, Professional Photographers of America, etc).

Part of series I want to make featuring some of the more colorful, beautiful ducks. That sounds duckist. I should probably work on the less colorful ducks, too. Also duckish.
